UFA: Who is Guch?
Guch: Well I am of course lol…A strong black female from New Orleans, La. I grew up downtown in the 7th ward until hurricane Katrina hit, and I move to Houston, Tx.
UFA: Why do you want to create music?
Guch: Ever since I was young I would sit with my childhood friends and sing, rap, dance etc. I was always making something up. I could learn the lyrics to a song after hearing it once. It was a way to express myself because I never liked to explain myself to people. I feel music helps me to help others.
UFA: Who/What influenced you to make music?
Guch: I would have to say Tupac. His music touches my soul and it made me wanna touch others the way he touched mine. My mother is also a big influence because I watched her struggle to raise me and my brother and I just wanna make sure they both can live the life we all dream of.
UFA: If you could work with any major artists, who would it be?
Guch: Definitely J Cole! He has such an impact on the way I view the world around me. I love his music. Meek Mill as well because he keeps the streets alive and gives hope that no matter where you come from you can make it to the top.
UFA: Musically what’s the difference from New Orleans & Texas?
Guch: It’s a major culture difference. New Orleans is known for bounce music “fast” and Houston is known for screw music “slow.” They music is definitely not the same.
UFA: What separates you from the mainstream and underground artists?
Guch: I’m literally what you call an independent artist. I do it all by myself with no label, management, etc Just me my fiancé and the few loyal friends that I have. I get out in the streets everyday networking making business moves. I don’t let “labels” define me and I remain true to myself and my fans no matter the dollar amount.
UFA: How do you think “Unsigned Female Artists” can help get your music out there?
Guch: “Unsigned Female Artists” is a platform for females that go hard in the music industry so that is something I can definitely use to be heard. Plus it is not dominated by mainstream artist that clearly has the platform underground artist are trying to reach. I really appreciate you for giving us a platform of our own.
UFA: Why do you think it’s hard for female artists to control the male dominated industry?
Guch: I truly believe its because females allow themselves to be 2nd best. I myself refuse to take the back seat to the opposite sex. It’s may the best man/woman win when it comes to anything in my eyes.
UFA: How long have you been making music? What are some goals you hope to achieve?
Guch: I have been making music since 2004. I released my first project in 2011 and since then I have released 2 more mixtapes. My goal is to start my own label so that I can bring aboard the talent that hip hop is missing.
UFA: What’s an everyday motto that you go by? What advice would you give other artists wanting to make music?
Guch: Get money or Get lost. If your not original you will fade when others fade and that nothing is free you must grind and invest in yourself before others do.
